This blood orange spritz, aka the burned and bloody spritz, is the perfect cocktail for Halloween or for watching Game of Thrones! It's full of bubbly blood orange flavor and smoked rosemary!

Blood orange spritz in a wine glass with a skeleton hand at the bottom. The cocktail is garnished with caramelized blood oranges an smoked rosemary.

Why you will love this recipe:

I am such a fan of Halloween and making festive drinks to go along with my favorite spooky movies. Just check out these other Halloween cocktails: Hocus Pocus Drink - The Black Flame Candle, Hocus Pocus Inspired Cocktail - I Put A Spell On You, Practical Magic Midnight Margaritas, and Haunted Halloween Punch.

This cocktail was inspired by the Targaryen's on Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon; it's bright bloody red and has a wonderful smokey flavor from smoked rosemary. It's almost like a dragon just vanquished its enemy.

Ingredients for the spritz on a brown table.

    Key Ingredients:

Blood Orange Soda: blood orange Italian soda is sweetened carbonated blood orange juice. My favorite is the Whole Foods brand, but the San Pellegrino Ananciata Rossa is also delicious!

Processo or sparkling wine: the blood orange soda is perfectly complimented by the chilled wine, making it a really refreshing cocktail. Use any sparkling wine you like, but I always use prosecco.

Aperol: Aperol is my favorite orange liqueur; it has a bit of bitterness and a beautiful orange flavor without being super sweet.

Grenadine: grenadine is a pomegranate-based syrup and adds a little berry sweetness to this spritz.

Rosemary: Slightly dry rosemary is ideal for smoking. Leave the rosemary out overnight or heat it in the oven at a low temp to dry it out. Then light the end, let it burn a little, and insert it into the drink for a wonderful smokey flavor.

    How to make this recipe:

Prosecco being poured into a wine glass with ice.

Add the prosecco to a large wine glass with ice.

A skeleton hand wine glass with ice and aperol in it. It is also surrounded by blood orange slices.

Add in the blood orange soda, Aperol, and grenadine.

Overhead shot of the cocktail with all its garnishes.

Take a sprig of rosemary and light the end with a kitchen torch or lighter. Let it burn, then insert it into the cocktail.

Blood orange slice sugar sprinkled on top.

Optional: Make caramelized blood orange slices. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon sugar on a blood orange slice and burn with a torch until caramelized.

    Equipment

    Kitchen torch or lighter.
