There's nothing quite like warming up with a mug of Apple Cider Hot Buttered Bourbon in the wintertime! This perfectly cozy cocktail combines bourbon and hot apple cider with an apple spiced butter batter.

As a Kentucky native, bourbon is a big deal to me and has always been my go-to spirit. Cocktails like this Bourbon Apple Cider Old Fashioned, Bourbon Spiked Apple Cider Mimosa, Spiced Cranberry Old Fashioned, or French 95 AKA a French 75 with Bourbon, are in my constant rotation.

    Key Ingredients

    • Salted Butter: the butter and the bourbon are the stars of the show in this drink, so I highly recommend using a high-quality butter like Kerrygold.
    • Brown Sugar: this sweetens the butter and add sweetness to the cocktail, and brown add a nice deep sweetness.
    • Apple Spice Blend: cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and allspice add flavor, warmth, and spice to the bourbon and water.
    • Bourbon: bourbon is the spirt for this cocktail, which goes so well with the spiced butter.
    • Apple Cider: Boiling hot apple cider is mixed with the butter batter and bourbon for a super cozy cocktail.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this cocktail

The butter, spices, and sugar, in a glass bowl in direct sun light.
    1. Step 1: Add the ½ cup salted butter, ½ cup brown sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, 2 ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon cloves, ¼ teaspoon nutmeg, and 1 ½ teaspoon all spice in a bowl.
The ingredients from the previous photo have been beaten together.
    1. Step 2: Beat the mixture until smooth.
A tablespoon of the butter batter has been added to an etched glass mug.
    1. Step 3: Add 1 ½ tablespoons of the butter to a heat-proof glass and top with 2 ounces of bourbon or whiskey.
Hot apple cider has been added to the mug.
    1. Step 4: Top with about 1 cup of boiling hot apple cider.

    💭 EXPERT TIPS:

    • Use the highest quality butter, like Kerrygold, for the best flavor.
    • If the butter starts to separate, just give it a little stir.
    • Top with whipped cream for a really indulgent treat.
    • Use the leftover batter as a spread for bread, biscuits, or bagels! It's essentially a sweetened and spiced whipped butter, and it's absolutely delicious!
    • The batter will be kept in a sealed container at room temperature for two days and in the fridge for two weeks

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
