Homemade blackberry simple syrup is the perfect way to flavor cocktails, lemonades, or any drink if you want to add a little blackberry flavor! It's just three ingredients and is ready in about 30 minutes!

Simple syrup is an easy liquid sweetener that can be added to any drink for added sweetness, and this blackberry version is the perfect blackberry drink or cake enhancer!

Why you will love this recipe:

Perfect cocktails like a Blackberry Mint Julep or Blackberry Bramble, or drinks like Blackberry Earl Grey Iced Tea, Blackberry Lemonade, sparkling water, blackberry latte, or even blackberry shaved ice!

This is an easy recipe and much better than using a preservative-added store-bought syrup! The fresh strawberry simple syrup is also an amazing choice for strawberry lovers.

    Key Ingredients:

    • Blackberries: You can use fresh or frozen blackberries, I used fresh for this recipe but frozen works just as well.
    • Water: A traditional simple syrup is equal parts sugar to water.
    • Sugar: Sugar is both a sweetener and a preservative. The more sugar, the longer the syrup will keep.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this recipe:

The blackberries, sugar, and water sitting in a small pot.

Add the blackberries, sugar, and water to a small saucepan.

The Cooked blackberries sitting in a small pot.

Simmer, but don't boil the mixture until all the sugar has dissolved and the blackberries have lost their shape.

The syrup being strained unto an air tight jar.

Let the mixture cool to room temperature, and then strain.

Transfer the syrup to an airtight container and chill or serve!

    Top tips

    • Straining: use a fine mesh sieve to strain the skin and seeds out of the syrup.
    • Crystallization: Lower the heat and gently melt it back into the syrup if the mixture starts crystallizing.
    • Storage: store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up two weeks.

    Variations:

You can use this recipe to make loads of syrups to your tastes.

    • Add herbs like mint or basil. Basil and blackberries are a great combination, and add mint for a blackberry mint julep!
    • Use brown sugar for a deeper, more molasses flavor.
    • Use different fruits, strawberries, rhubarb, or raspberries.

    Perfect recipes for this syrup:

    • Blackberry Iced Tea
    • Blackberry Lemonade
    • Blackberry Sparkling Water
    • Blackberry Latte
    • Blackberry Shaved Ice

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
