The mint julep is the official cocktail of the Kentucky Derby, and it's perfect for any Derby party or sunny day. The fresh mint and crushed ice provide a welcome relief when it's hot outside.
This drink pairs well with other fruity spring cocktails, such as the strawberry mint julep, or this traditional the best mint julep recipe, and is an excellent addition to any Kentucky Derby party!
These are the key ingredients:
- Fresh passion fruit: Cut open two passion fruits, use the insides from one in the glass, and use the other to top off the crushed ice.
- Bourbon: A top-shelf, high-quality bourbon is crucial for a delicious-tasting drink.
- Fresh mint: This recipe requires a lot of mint. Some mint leaves are chopped up and added to the simple syrup, and several sprigs of whole mint are added to the glass for more flavor and as a garnish.
- Simple syrup: This sweetener is made with equal parts water and sugar and adds just the right amount of sweetness to the cocktail.
- Crushed ice: Use crushed ice for a traditional Kentucky Derby-style cocktail.
