This classic cocktail from 1920s Paris is a negroni with bourbon whiskey instead of gin, which is perfect for negroni and bourbon lovers! This version of the bourbon boulevardier cocktail is like a warm and sweet negroni with just a touch of Campari bitterness.

I love classic bourbon cocktails, and I spend most of the year drinking Old Fashioneds, like this how to make the perfect old fashioned or this fun riff, the bourbon espresso old fashioned. But this bourbon cocktail with vermouth and Campari sounded too good not to try to make my version. This may be slightly sweeter and less bitter than some versions, but I don't think you could find one more delicious.

    Key Ingredients:

Ingredients for the cocktail on a pink marble table.

Bourbon: Bourbon is the base for this cocktail, and I think a bourbon with orange or citrus notes, like Angels Envy, best blends and complements the Campari and orange peel.

Sweet Vermouth: Sweet vermouth is a fortified wine that has been enhanced with botanicals, these flavors blend so well with the warm bourbon.

Campari: Campari is the Italian vibrant Italian bitter, it is similar to Aperol but much more bitter.

Orange Peel: The finished cocktail is garnished with an orange peel.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this drink:

Ice setting in a large mixing glass.

Step 1: Fill a mixing glass with ice.

All the ingredients have been added to the glass.

Step 2: Add the 1 ½ ounces of bourbon, ¾ ounces sweet vermouth, and ½ ounce of Campari. Stir to combine and to dilute slightly.

The stirred drink has been poured into a Negroni glass with a large ice cube.

Step 3: Pour into a glass with ice.

A orange peel and zest has been added to the top of the drink.

Step 4: Express an orange peel over the drink, then add the peel as a garnish.

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
