    Key Ingredients

The ingredients for the cocktail on a purple marble table.
    • Brown Sugar: brown sugar makes up the sweeter for syrup and provides a really rich depth of flavor that pairs so well with the cherries,
    • Cinnamon: this add additional flavor and a bit of spice to the syrup.
    • Bourbon: Bourbon is the key ingredient in any old-fashioned, so using the best one that goes well with the peaches and brown sugar is key. A sweet but well-balanced bourbon is my favorite. I used Woodford Reserve for this recipe.
    • Bitters: Spiced cherry bitters run on the sweet side and provide wonderful sweet, spicy notes to the cocktail.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this recipe:

The spiced cherry syrup in a glass pot.
    1. Step 1: Start by combining 2 cups pitted cherries, 1 cup water, 1 cup brown sugar, and 3 cinnamon sticks in a pot and cook until the cherries are soft (about 20 minutes). Remove from heat, let cool, and then strain.
A small rocks glass with an ice cube and bourbon.
    1. Step 2: Add 1 ½ ounces of bourbon to rocks glass with ice (or to a mixing glass with ice).
The drink with the syrup, bitters, and being stirred.
    1. Step 3: Top with 1 ounce of the syrup and 1 dash of spiced cherry bitters. Stir to combine.
The finished cocktail ganrished with a cherry.
    1. Step 4: Garnish with a fresh cherry

    Expert Tips:

Suggested Barware: Use a jigger to measure your bourbon and syrup accurately. Also, using a cocktail stirrer is beneficial because it fits so well around the ice.

Ice: Use a large ice cube because it melts slower and is less likely to dilute the drink.

Store the leftover syrup in the fridge for up to two weeks.

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
