This maple cinnamon old fashioned is delightfully easy and delicious! It combines maple syrup with bourbon and cinnamon bitters. It's a perfectly sweet cocktail that hits all the right comfort notes.

Bourbon is my spirit of choice, and indulging in a bourbon cocktail is my favorite way to relax during the fall and winter months. I also love a spin on an old-fashioned just like this: Bourbon Peach Old Fashioned, Bourbon Apple Cider Old Fashioned, or this Spiced Cranberry Old Fashioned!

This cocktail was made to be served alongside these maple bourbon cinnamon rolls, as it uses the same delicious flavor profile. The mini cinnamon roll can be made from the scraps from that recipe.

    Ingredients:

Bourbon: Bourbon is the key ingredient in this cocktail, so using the best one that goes well with the maple flavor is key.A sweet but well-balanced bourbon is by far the best.

Maple Syrup: This is our sweetener, and I've found that 100% Vermont maple syrup or dark amber maple syrup is best.

Cinnamon and Orange Bitters: I use Old Forester smoked cinnamon bitters. These are one of my favorite bitters to haveon hand and are used in many cocktails.

Orange Peel: This is used to express the oils and citrus flavor around the glass of the cocktail.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this recipe:

A rocks glass with a large ice cube on a pink marble table.
    1. Step 1: Start by adding a large ice cube to a rocks glass.
Maple syrup being poured into the rocks glass.
    1. Step 2: Top with 2 ounces of bourbon and ¼-1/2 ounce of maple syrup.
Cinnamon dashes are being added to the cocktail via a dropper.
    1. Step 3: Then add 1 dash of cinnamon bitters and 1 dash of orange bitters, and express an orange peel around the glass.
The finished cocktail garnished with a mini cinnamon roll.
    1. Step 4: Garnish with a mini cinnamon roll or dried orange slice and cinnamon stick.

    Tips

If you're making cinnamon roll garnish, you can use this maple bourbon cinnamon rolls recipe. Reserve a 1 inch by 3 inch scrap with filling on it. Roll it lengthways and cut it in half. Let them rise for 30 minutes, then bake at 350 for 15-20 minutes.

Suggested Barware: Use a jigger to measure your bourbon and syrup accurately. Also, using a cocktail stirrer is beneficial because it fits so well around the ice.

Ice: Use a large ice cube because it melts slower and is less likely to dilute the drink.

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
