The Best Chocolate Bourbon Banana Bread

This chocolate bourbon banana bread contains all of the best flavors, bourbon, chocolate, bananas, allspice, and cinnamon!

It's incredibly comforting and satisfying, plus it's made with half almond flour and half all-purpose flour. The almond flour adds the health benefits of ground almonds and a lovely subtle flavor.

Three slices of bourbon chocolate banana bread stacked on top of each other with two glasses of bourbon above and below the slices on a white a plate.

Why you will love this recipe:

The best part of this bread is how easy it is to make and how forgiving it is! The addition of bourbon and chocolate also makes this a really special and flavorful recipe. Bourbon adds a wonderful depth of flavor to the recipe, much like cooking with wine adds depth and flavor to chicken recipes.

Banana is one of my favorite fruits to bake with, and there are so many wonderful ways to incorporate it! These Banana Pancakes, Banana Muffins, and Bourbon Banana Caramel Cake are also amazing!

    About this recipe:

    • Taste - The combination of banana, bourbon, vanilla, and cinnamon is sweet, comforting, and so delicious.
    • Texture - This is a dense but moist bread that falls apart in your mouth.
    • Effort - This easy recipe has a few simple steps, making the batter, adding it to a loaf pan, then baking it
    • Time - It takes about 10 minutes to prep the batter and then about 1 hour to bake.

    Key Ingredients:

Ripe Bananas: This bread ultimately comes down to how ripe your bananas are. You want to use the ripest bananas possible; if you use fresh or even a lightly ripe banana, the flavor won't be there once the bread has been baked.

Almond and all-purpose flour: Almond flour is comprised of finely ground almonds and contains a wonderful amount of nutrients. Almond flour also makes a moister crumb, so I love to use it when baking.

Milk and bourbon: These wet ingredients add moisture to the bread.

Cinnamon and allspice: these spices are what make the bread taste so warm and cozy!

Bourbon: This provides a lot of depth of flavor to the bread. I used a good mellow bourbon, Woodford Reserve, but any premium bourbon will do!

    How to make this recipe:

This bread is so easy to make.

    1. Start by beating your butter and sugars together.
    2. Then whisk your dry ingredients (flours, leaveners, spices, and salt).
    3. Mash the ripe bananas in a mixing bowl, then add in the milk, bourbon, and vanilla.
    4. Add the flour mixture to the bowl with the milk and bananas and mix until mix there are no streaks of flour left.
    5. Add the chocolate chips and mix until they are well distributed.
    6. Add to a lined and greased loaf pan and top with sliced banana and more chocolate chips.
    7. And bake!

    Tips for success:

This recipe is so easy that it's really hard to mess it up, but a few things will make it absolutely perfect.

    • Thoroughly mash the banana; if there are chucks left, you will have chunks in the finished recipe.
    • Add as many chocolate chips as you like! This is the amount of banana chocolate ratio that I like but if you want more chocolate, add more!
    • Top the batter with more sliced banana and chocolate chips for a gorgeous and festive look to the bread.

    FAQ's

How long does this recipe keep for?

This will be kept at room temperature for 2-3 days in an airtight container.

How do I know when this recipe is done?

Since this bread is so moist and browns quickly, use a knife and insert it into the center of the bread, and if it pulls out clean it's done.

This recipe looks so amazing but my hubby has an almond allergy. Do you have any suggestions for an almond flour substitute? Thanks!

Thanks so much! You can switch it out and use regular AP flour.

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
