Why You Will Love This Recipe:

    1. Unexpected deliciousness: The combination of Guinness, Irish whiskey, and chocolate bitters may seem out of the ordinary, but it results in a perfect blend of flavors.
    2. Creamy delight: This milkshake offers a velvety smooth ice creamy texture that satisfies your sweet tooth and your craving for something more adult.
    3. Perfect for Any Occasion: Whether you're celebrating St. Patrick's Day or simply craving a decadent dessert, this Guinness Milkshake is versatile enough to be enjoyed on any occasion.

    Key Ingredients

The ingredients for the milkshake on a pink marble table.
    1. Guinness Stout: The deep, malty flavor of Guinness adds a rich complexity to the milkshake, setting it apart from traditional shakes.
    2. Irish Whiskey: Choose a smooth and flavorful Irish whiskey to complement the Guinness and add a subtle kick to the shake.
    3. Chocolate Bitters: These bitters infuse the milkshake with a hint of chocolatey goodness and help to balance out the richness of the other ingredients.
    4. Vanilla Ice Cream: The creamy base of the milkshake, providing a luscious texture and a hint of sweetness.
    5. Chocolate Sauce, shavings or nuts: Optional toppings to garnish your milkshake and add an extra layer of indulgence.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this recipe:

Ice cream sitting in a large glass,

Step 1: Add the ice cream to a pint glass or large glass.

The ice cream topped with the bitters and the whiskey.

Step 2: Top with ½ oz whiskey and two dashes of chocolate bitters.

The Guinness being poured into the glass.

Step 3: Top with the Guinness.

The chocolate sauce has been added to the glass.

Step 4: Top with chocolate sauce and chocolate shavings and enjoy!

    Expert Tips:

    1. Use a jigger to measure the whiskey accurately.
    2. Pour the Guinness in 2 steps. The beer will foam a lot when you first pour it. Pour some, let it settle for a minute, and continue pouring.
    3. Adjust to Taste: Feel free to adjust the quantities of ice cream and Guinness to suit your personal preferences.
    4. Experiment with Toppings: Get creative with your milkshake toppings by adding crushed cookies, caramel sauce, or even a drizzle of Irish cream liqueur.

    Substitutions:

    1. Use different flavors of ice creams. I've tried this with chocolate and caramel ice cream, and while the vanilla is my favorite, they were also delicious!
    2. You can use any beer you like, but Guinness matches the flavors in the ice cream the best!
    3. If you don't have chocolate bitters, skip and add just a bit of chocolate sauce at this step.

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
