This chocolate chip cookie, old-fashioned, topped with its own chocolate chip cookie, is the delicious dessert-themed cocktail of your dreams. This warm and innovative cocktail combines velvety bourbon, deep brown sugar vanilla syrup, and a few chocolatey dashes of chocolate bitters for a quintessentially nostalgic sip.

A small old fashioned glass filled with an chocolate chip cookie old fashioned and topped with a chocolate chip cookie with a straw through it.

I'm an old fashioned enthusiast and this chocolate chip cookie variation is perhaps the most comforting one I've ever enjoyed. Warm vanilla, rich caramel undertones from the brown sugar, and a touch of chocolate combine all of the greatest cookie flavors in your cocktail glass. Imagine your favorite cookie… with a splash of bourbon.

The art of crafting a fantastic old fashioned is all about getting the perfect harmony of sweetness, spirit, and bitters, and this recipe does it precisely right. It's ideal for winter evenings in, after-dinner drinks, or when you're itching for a twist on a classic. Try our Banana Bread Old Fashioned as well if you're hankering for more sweet variations of your go-to cocktail.

⭐ REASONS YOU WILL LOVE THIS RECIPE

It's that simple! Three ingredients and the occasional stir and thats it!Key Ingredients:

A cookie… in a cocktail! This cocktail is decadent, rich, and lightly chocolatey—all the things you enjoy when you eat a chocolate chip cookie.

Top it with a cookie! Top the finished drink with a cookie, a tiny hole, and a straw for a show-stopping dessert.

The ingredients for the cocktail on a pink marble table.

    Key Ingredients:

    • Bourbon: A slightly sweet and smooth bourbon is the best choice. For a real treat, Woodford Reserve Double Oaked would be perfect for this, because of its chocolate notes.
    • Brown Sugar Vanilla Syrup: To make it in your own kitchen, simmer 1 cup of water with 1 cup of brown sugar until the sugar has melted, remove from heat, and stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla.
    • Chocolate Bitters: A dash of these bitters brings depth and the perfect amount of chocolate to make this cocktail taste absolutely cookie-like.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this recipe:

The syrup in a glass pot on a pink marble table.
    1. Step 1: Start by making the syrup by simmering 1 cup of water with 1 cup of brown sugar until the sugar has melted. Remove from heat and stir in 2 teaspoons of vanilla. Let cool, then strain.

    1. Step 2: Next, prepare your cookies. Make sure they are slightly warm, then use a piping bag tip to cut out a tiny hole for a straw to fit through.
The mixed drink being stirred with a bar spoon.
    1. Step 3: Then mix your drink by combining 2 ounces bourbon, ½ ounce brown sugar vanilla syrup, and 2-3 dashes of chocolate bitters in a rocks glass with ice. Stir to combine.

    1. Step 4: Top with your cookies and finish with a straw.

    💡 EXPERT TIPS:

    • Make sure your cookies are warm before cutting out the hole. A warm and slightly soft cookie made a perfect hole with no breakage.
    • Add your vanilla to the syrup when it's cool for the most pronounced vanilla flavor.
    • Ice: A single large cube keeps the beverage cold but does not dilute it.

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
