This is Bourbon and Sherry Manhattan is my ideal Manhattan! It's perfectly smooth, slightly sweet, and is full of good whiskey flavor. The key to this recipe is PX sherry, your favorite Bourbon, and toasted almond bitters.

I love bourbon-based cocktails, and the Manhattan and old-fashioned are my favorite boozy gotos. If you are looking foranother classic cocktail, check out my post on How to Make a Perfect Old Fashioned.

Why you will love this recipe:

    1. Perfect for bourbon lovers. This is the perfect Manhattan for those wanting to use bourbon over rye whiskey.
    2. Perfect for those who like sweeter but not sugary drinks! The PX sherry is sweeter than syrup and sweet vermouth but is incredibly flavorful and blends so seamlessly with the bourbon.
    3. So easy to make! Just mix, pour, and serve.

    Key Ingredients:

The ingredients for the cocktail on a wood bar cart.

Bourbon: the px sherry is what differentiates this from the traditional Manhattan, so picking a bourbon that matches the sweet, spicy, and caramel notes in sherry is ideal.

What Bourbon is Best for this Cocktail:

I went with Willett Pot Still Reserve because it's one of my favorites, and I think its vanilla and caramel taste would complement the sherry well.

PX Sherry: is a very sweet dessert wine from Spain known for its dried fruit, caramel, and chocolate flavor.

Bitters: I use both Angostura Aromatic Bitters and Toasted Almond Bitters to add spice and light sweetness to the drink.

    How to make this cocktail:

All the ingredients in a glass mixing glass on a wood bar cart.
    1. Step 1: Add 2 ounces of good bourbon, ¼-1/2 ounce PX Sherry, 1 dash Angostura Bitters, and 1 dash of Toasted Almond bitters to a mixing glass with ice.
All the ingredients in a glass mixing glass on a wood bar cart. and now stirred.
    1. Step 2: Stir until well chilled.
The finished cocktail in a green coupe glass and garnished with 3 cherries and a dried orange.
    1. Step 3: Pour into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.Garnish with a cherry and/or orange.

    Tips for success:

Suggested Barware: Use a jigger to measure your Bourbon and liqueur accurately. Also, using a cocktail stirrer is beneficial because it fits so well around the ice.

Chill both your mixing glass and cocktail glass before making.

Fabbri Amarena Cherries or Luxardo Cherries are my go-to cherries for a Manhattan.

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
