This rose and elderflower gin and tonic is a Spanish-style gin and tonic, where the drink is layered with herbs, botanicals, and bitters, and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite styles of drinks! This version combines rose tea, cucumbers, gin, elderflower tonic water, and rhubarb bitters, and it's perfectly floral and refreshing.

Two glasses of the rose elderflower gin and tonic filled with rose buds on a pink marble table.

I am typically not the biggest gin and tonic fan, but this version with so many layered garnishes and bitters is quickly becoming my go-to spritz! The options are endless, and you can do any falvor combination you wish; this pickle gin and tonic is another fun option!

    Key Ingredients

    • Gin: gin is such a refreshing and versatile spirit; for this recipe, I used Empress Elderflower Rose gin, but I also tested it with the French London dry-style gin Esme, which also has rose and cucumber notes and was great as well.
    • Elderflower Tonic: my go-to tonic water is Fever Tree, but if you aren't a tonic fan, club soda also works.
    • Rose Bud Tea: I purchased mine off amazon, but any rose tea with full buds works.
    • Persian Cucumber slices: These add an additional refreshing taste and flavor notes to the cocktail.
    • Rhubarb Bitters: Mine are Fee Brothers, and they are delicious. They are one of my favorite bitters for summertime.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this drink:

The rose bud tea and the gin sitting in a gin and tonic glass.
    1. Step 1: Add 2 tablespoons of rose tea to a gin and tonic glass and top with 2 ounces of gin. Then top with 5-7 slices of the cucumber.
Ice and cucumber have been added to the glass.
    1. Step 2: Add ice to the glass and stir.
Tonic water is being poured into the glass and it is foaming.
    1. Step 3: Add 4-5 ounces of tonic water.
A straight on shot go the finished drink.
    1. Step 4: Finish with 2-3 dashes of rhubarb bitters, and stir again.

    Tips:

Suggested Barware: Use a jigger to measure your bourbon and syrup accurately. Also, using a cocktail stirrer is beneficial because it fits so well around the ice.

Use a trusted rose tea, and ensure that the rose buds are edible.

The longer the drink sits, the more flavor will come through from all the botanicals, so enjoy sipping!

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
