Get into the St. Patrick's Day spirit with the Pickled Patrick Cocktail, a refreshing pickle twist on the classic Irish Maid. This unique cocktail combines the smoothness of Irish whiskey with the subtle sweetness of elderflower liqueur, the tanginess of pickle juice, and a hint of citrus.

A rocks glass filled with the cocktail and garnished with a pickle pear, mint and mini pickles on a pink marble back ground.

If you're looking for more St. Patrick's Day cocktail inspiration, consider these additional options: The Best Guinness and Whiskey Milkshake, made with Guinness stout, vanilla ice cream, and a touch of Irish Cream. Alternatively, an Irish Espresso Martini, featuring whiskey, espresso, and Baileys Irish Cream, is a fun choice. These cocktails offer a fun and creative way to celebrate the holiday.

    Ingredients

    • Irish Whiskey: Irish whiskey is distinct from other types of whiskey due to its unique triple-distillation process, which gives it a smoother and more approachable flavor profile compared to the double-distilled whiskeys commonly produced in Scotland and the United States. Its perfect with the elderflower and pickle.
    • Elderflower liqueur: is made from the blossoms of the elderflower plant and give the liqueur a light, airy, and subtly sweet character.
    • Dill Pickle brine: I used Grillo's Pickles, but any brand works!
    • Lemon Juice: just a splash to brighten up the drink.
    • Simple syrup: also just a splash for balance.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this drink:

A cocktail shaker filled with the ingredients sitting on a pink marble table.
    1. Step 1: Add 2 ounces of Irish Whiskey, 1 ounce of dill pickle brine, ½ ounce of elderflower liqueur, ¼ ounce lemon juice, and ¼ ounce simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice.

    1. Step 3: Pour into a glass with ice and dill pickle spear.
The drink has been poured into the glass and garnished with mint.
    1. Step 4: Garnish with mint.

    Top Tip

Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh lemon juice and real simple syrup make a big difference in the flavor of the cocktail.

Experiment with different whiskey styles: If you prefer a smoother whiskey, try using a blended Irish whiskey. If you like a bit more spice, use a single pot still whiskey.

Make your own simple syrup: simply cook 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water to make the syrup at home!

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
