Elevate your spring and summer cocktail game with an Orange and Cherry Spanish Gin and Tonic, a refreshing twist on the classic Gin & Tonic. This vibrant and flavorful drink combines the crispness of gin and tonic with the sweetness of oranges and cherries, and the warmth of cloves.

A Spanish Gin & Tonic, also known as "Gin Tónico," is a style of serving gin and tonic that originated in Spain. It's characterized by the use of a large glass, plenty of ice, a smaller pour of gin, and quite a bit of tonic water, garnished with a variety of citrus, herbs, and spices. This style of serving allows the flavors of the gin and garnishes to shine through. This rose and elderflower gin and tonic is another great Spanish gin and tonic!

    • Orange and Cherry Spanish Gin and Tonic

    Key Ingredients

The ingredients for the cocktail on a pink marble table.

Gin - I used a sweeter gin with lots of orange notes, Mermaid Zest Gin, and it turned out lovely.

Tonic Water - my go-to tonic water is Fever Tree, but if you aren't a tonic fan, club soda also works.

Angostura Bitters - this is my favorite classic bitters, it is warm and spicy and goes so well with the orange.

Slice of orange - as you drink the cocktail, the orange flavor becomes more substantial and stronger as the fruit mixes with the drink.

Cocktail cherries - a few cocktails of cherries in syrup add sweetness to the drink.

Whole cloves - cloves add wonderful aromatics to the drink.

    How to make this drink:

A balloon glass filled with ice.
    1. Step 1:  Fill a large glass with ice: Use a balloon-shaped glass, if possible, to showcase the colors and aromas of the drink.
Gin has been added to the glass.
    1. Step 2:  Pour the 1 ½ ounces gin over the ice: Add the gin and let it chill for a moment.
All the ingredients have been added to the glass.
    1. Step 3: Add the 4-5 ounces tonic water, 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters, orange slice, cocktail cherries, and cloves:

    1. Step 4: Stir gently and serve: Stir the drink briefly to combine the ingredients and release the flavors and aromas.

    Tips for sucsess:

Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh oranges and real cocktail cherries make a big difference in the flavor and appearance of the drink.

    •  Don't overdo the Angostura bitters: Start with two dashes and adjust to taste, as the bitters can quickly overpower the other flavors.

    •  Experiment with different gin styles: If you prefer a more floral gin, try using a Plymouth Gin. If you like a more crisp gin, use a London Dry Gin.

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
