This creamy and frothy Irish Espresso Martini combines espresso, Irish Whiskey, and Irish Cream for the perfect St. Patrick's Day cocktail! Baileys and espresso are such a perfect flavor combination, and a little Irish whiskey makes this cocktail absolutely delicious.

2 Irish espresso martinis on a gold platter and garnished with mint.

Whiskey and espresso are such a great flavor combination, and I have always thought that bourbon whiksey is a much better spirit choice for this martini than traditional vodka. In fact, two of my favorite cocktails are bourbon and espresso cocktails, this Bourbon Espresso Old Fashioned and this Bourbon Espresso Martini. But this version with Irish Cream justmight be my favorite.

    Key Ingredients

    • Espresso: a single shot of freshly brewed espresso is the coffee element used in the cocktail. Using true espresso is key; I would not substitute for regular drip coffee as it's not as strong.
    • Irish Cream: This is a liqueur made from cream and Irish Whiskey. It's sweet, nutty, and chocolatey and is perfect for an espresso cocktail.
    • Irish Whiskey: Irish Whiskey is famous for its smoothness from being distilled three times, which helps make an incredible smooth cocktail. I used Jameson for this version.
    • Simple Syrup: A little sugar syrup is mixed in to ensure the drink has the right amount of sweetness.

    See recipe card for quantities.

    How to make this cocktail:

A shot of espresso in a green marble espresso cup.
    1. Step 1: Start by brewing your 1 ½ ounce shot of espresso.
Espresso being poured into a gold cocktail shaker.
    1. Step 2: Then add ice to a cocktail shaker and top with 1 ½ ounce Irish Whiskey, ½ ounce Irish Cream, one espresso shot, and ½ ounce simple syrup.
The cocktail is being poured into a martini glass.
    1. Step 3: Shake for 30 seconds and pour into a martini glass.
A perfectly poured glass of Irish espresso martini with ample foam and 3 espresso beans and a mint sprig.
    1. Step 4: Garnish with fresh mint and espresso beans.

    Tips!

Suggested Barware: Use a jigger to measure your bourbon and syrup accurately. Use a reliable cocktail shaker to mix the cocktail.

Use freshly brewed espresso and shake the shaker vigorously to get that signature espresso martini foam.

Make your own syrup: making your own simple syrup is so easy and cost-effective. Just cook 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar until all the sugar has melted, then let cool.

    About Pate

Hi! I'm Pate, the blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind The G&M Kitchen!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
