This is the perfect fresh grapefruit margarita! It's more than tart than sweet, as all margaritas should be, and it's bursting with fresh grapefruit and lime flavor!

It uses pink grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice, blanco tequila, and grapefruit liqueur (secret key ingredient!).

Why you will love this recipe:

Grapefruit and tequila are a match made in heaven, and this margarita combines sweetness and tartness into a to die for margarita! My favorite margarita ever was at Mercado in Santa Monica, and this is even better than that one. The key is plenty of fresh lime juice, grapefruit juice, and grapefruit liquor!

I've never been a fan of too-sweet desserts and cocktails, and I firmly believe that margaritas shouldn't be super sweet. I love them when they taste really fresh and really let the citrus shine, and this recipe does just that! It truly celebrates the grapefruit flavor.

Ingredients for grapefruit margarita in a brown table

    Key ingredients:

Blanco Tequila: the trick to a good margarita is good ingredients, so use good tequila- my favorites are Casamigos and Espolòn's Blanco. But here is a great list if you want more recommendations. Bonus points if you get one with notes of citrus.

Fresh Pink Grapefruit Juice: you can use fresh squeezed or store-bought grapefruit juice, but fresh-squeezed usually tastes best.

Simple Syrup or Agave Nectar: this cocktail has just a bit of sweetener to perfectly balance and complement the grapefruit juice. You can use agave, simple syrup, or even honey, whatever you have on hand.

Lime Juice: no margarita is complete without lime juice!

Grapefruit Liqueur: this is key! Instead of using orange liqueur, this recipe calls for Grapefruit liqueur to really bring out the grapefruit flavor. I use Giffard Pink Grapefruit Liqueur, and it is so delicious! I also use it in my grapefruit rose sangria.

    Tips and tricks for success:

    • Make simple syrup by cooking 1 cup water with 1 cup sugar in a small pot on medium heat until all the sugar had melted.
    • Use a lime wedge to rim the edge of the glass and then roll the lime-soaked rim in salt. Use sea salt flakes for a more dramatic effect.
    • Really shake your margarita in the cocktail shaker to get a nice foam top.
    • Garnish with mint, cucumber, and a slice of lime!

    FAQ:

Can I make this margarita into a pitcher?

Yes! Just use the tool in the recipe card and multiply the recipe by how many margaritas you want to fill in your pitcher. Add it all the pitcher and stir!

Raised in the heart of Kentucky, I come from a long line of passionate cooks and bakers. The kitchen was always the heart of our home, where we transformed vegetables into delightful dishes and crafted pies and cakes that emerged from the oven. This tradition of coming together through food and cooking inspired the name of my blog, The G&M Kitchen – 'G' for my father's family, the Giltners, and 'M' for my mother's family, the Millers.

I also believe if a recipe is missing something, it's probably bourbon.
