The Salted Maple Old Fashioned might just be the quintessential fall cocktail. It's simple, classic, and maybe even a little basic, but sometimes basic is basic for a reason. Bourbon, maple syrup, sea salt, and warm bitters come together for a cocktail that is incredibly comforting and tastes like fall in a glass.

The little pinch of sea salt is what really makes this old fashioned special. It balances the sweetness of the maple syrup and brings out all those caramel, vanilla, and oak notes in the bourbon, while cinnamon and aromatic bitters add just enough fall spice. It's cozy, bourbon-forward, slightly sweet, and exactly what I want to drink once the weather starts cooling down. The Candied Pecan Old Fashioned is another great fall drink!

⭐ WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS SALTED MAPLE OLD FASHIONED

    • It's the quintessential fall cocktail. Maple, bourbon, cinnamon, and a little salt give you all those warm, cozy flavors without overcomplicating things.
    • Sweet and salty perfection. The sea salt balances the maple syrup and makes the flavors of the bourbon pop.
    • So incredibly easy. Five ingredients, one glass, and a good stir are all you need.

    🥘 INGREDIENTS

Cinnamon Stick: A simple garnish that adds even more warm cinnamon aroma as you sip.Ingredients

Bourbon: This is a very bourbon-forward cocktail, so use a good bourbon that you really love. Something with caramel, vanilla, and baking spice notes works especially well with the maple.

Maple Syrup: Use real maple syrup here. It gives the old fashioned a deeper, richer sweetness than regular simple syrup and instantly makes it feel like fall.

Sea Salt: Just a small pinch transforms the drink. Salt helps balance the sweetness while enhancing the maple and bourbon flavors.

Cinnamon Bitters: These bring in that cozy baking-spice flavor without turning the cocktail into a full-on pumpkin spice situation.

Aromatic Bitters: One dash adds depth and keeps the maple sweetness in check.

    See recipe card for quantities.

🥃 HOW TO MAKE THIS COCKTAIL

a short mixing glass filled with a large ice cube and bourbon.
    1. Step 1: Fill a mixing glass with ice and top with 2 ounces of bourbon.
maple syrup and sea salt have been added to glass.
    1. Step 2: Top with ½ ounces of maple syrup and a pinch of sea salt.
Bitters have been added on top of the drink.
    1. Step 3: Add two dashes of cinnamon bitters and 1 dash aromatic bitters
The cocktail is being stirred with a bar spoon.
    1. Step 4: Stir very well. Give this one a little extra stirring time to make sure the sea salt completely dissolves and incorporates into the cocktail. And serve garnished with cinnamon.

d up well to freezing for X days/weeks/months.

    💡 TIPS FOR SUCSESS

    • Use a bourbon you love. There aren't many ingredients hiding it here, so this is the time to pull out one of your favorite bottles.
    • Don't skip the salt. It might sound unusual in an old fashioned, but that little bit of salt is what makes the maple, spice, and bourbon flavors really come alive.
    • Stir it really well. The extra stirring helps dissolve the salt while also chilling and lightly diluting the cocktail for a silky, balanced finish.
