Description

This vanilla espresso old fashioned combines sweet bourbonfreshly brewed espresso, vanilla bean brown sugar syrup, and chocolate bitters—the perfect indulgent espresso treat!

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the syrup:

  • 1 vanilla bean
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup water

For the cocktail:

  • 2 ounces bourbon
  • 3/4 ounce vanilla brown sugar syrup
  • 1 shot espresso (1 1/5 ounces approx.)
  • 2 dashes of chocolate bitters

To make the mini donut garnish use this recipe. Just adjust the recipe to cut out 1-2 centimeter holes (I used the large end of a piping tip) and fry for 30 seconds.

Instructions

Make the syrup by splitting a vanilla bean pod down the middle and scraping out the seeds. Add the seeds and pod to a small pot with 1 cup 1 and 1 cup brown sugar.

Simmer for 20 minutes so that the sugar can melt and the vanilla can infuse with the syrup.

Then let cool to room temperature.

Make the cocktail by adding 2 ounces of bourbon, 3/4 ounce of the vanilla brown sugar syrup, 1 shot espresso, and 2 dashes chocolate bitters to a glass with ice and stir to combine.

Top with 3 espresso beans,
