Description

This spiced and spicy whiskey sour is the perfect hot twist on the classic for the holiday season. It combines a hot honey, cinnamon, and allspice syrup with bourbon, lemon juice, ancho chile liqueur, and a little egg white. It's a little sweet, spicy, and sour, and it's absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

Scale

For the syrup:

  • 1 cup hot honey
  • 1 cup water
  • 5 cinnamon sticks
  • 1/2 tsp allspice

For the cocktail:

  • 2 ounces of bourbon or whiskey
  • 3/4 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1 ounce hot honey syrup
  • 1/2 ounce ancho chile liqueur
  • 1 egg white (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by making the spiced hot honey syrup by adding 1 cup hot honey, 1 cup water, 5 cinnamon sticks, and ½ teaspoon allspice to a small pot.
  2. Heat until the honey has loosened (5-10 minutes), then set aside and let cool. Strain.
  3. Then add 2 ounces of bourbon, 3/4 ounces of lemon juice, 1 ounce of the hot honey syrup, 1/2 ounce of ancho chili liqueur, and 1 egg white to a cocktail shaker.
  4. Shake for 30 seconds, add ice, then shake again.
  5. Pour into a coupe glass or over ice in a rocks glass.
  6. Garnish with a dusting of cinnamon.
