Prosciutto, Fig, and Honey Biscuits

Ingredients

  1. 1 1/2 cups chopped fresh figs 
  2. 12 slices of thinly sliced prosciutto torn into little pieces 
  3. 6 cups all-purpose flour
  4. 2 tbsp of baking powder
  5. 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  6. 1/4 cup sugar
  7. 2 1/4 tsp salt
  8. 2 cups (4 sticks) cold butter cut into small cubes
  9. 1/2 cup honey 
  10. 3/4 cup buttermilk
  11. 1 egg lightly beaten for an egg wash 

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees
  2. In a large bowl whisk the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and sugar. 
  3. Add the cold butter and work the butter in by hand into it's been mushed into pea-sized pieces. 
  4. Add the honey, buttermilk, figs, and prosciutto mix everything together.
  5. Pour the mixture onto a big workspace and lightly knead the dough until it starts to come together.
  6. Flatten the dough until it is 1 inch thick and using a cutter cut out the biscuits.
  7. Place on a baking sheet and freeze for 2 hours
  8. Once frozen, space out the biscuits on a baking sheet and using your egg lightly wash them
  9. Bake for 25 minutes
