Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 cloves garlic
- 2 large sweet onions
- 6 fresh thyme sprigs, leaves removed
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1/3 cup bourbon
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1 pizza dough ball
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 cup of shredded swiss and gruyere cheese
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 450 degrees and line a baking sheet with wax paper
- Take dough ball out of the fridge and allow to come to room temperature
- Thinly slice the onions and mash and mince the garlic
- In a medium high sided pan melt the butter on medium heat
- When the butter is foamy add the onions, garlic, thyme leaves, and saute until onions start to brown 10ish minutes
- Add the bourbon, sugar, Worcestershire sauce and keep cooking until onions become a deep brown and are cooked through
- Take the warmed dough and stretch out into a circle shape. I find it easiest to hold it up by the edges and rotate until it's reached the ideal thinness
- Flour the wax sheet and the bottom of the pizza dough and place on the baking sheet
- Brush olive oil over the dough and spread the onions over the dough
- Sprinkle 1/2 of the cheese over the pizza and bake for 15-20 minutes until crust is browned
- Take the pizza out of the oven and sprinkle the rest of the cheese over the pizza while it cools
- Sprinkle sea salt over pizza and eat up!
